• I think it’s interesting that Nanao’s concept of “shiawase” is so different from what most people would think of as happiness. She believes that there is no joy in a blade wielded for revenge, only in a blade wielded out of mutual love and respect in a fair fight. This perspective seems quite idealistic, and while I’m not entirely on board with it, I can understand why it resonates with Nanao.
• In Nanao’s backstory. It’s evident that she carries a great deal of trauma from her past, and I believe it’s what propels her towards seeking death. The weight of her pain makes her feel unworthy of life, and she searches for a means to bring it all to an end.
• I’m glad that Chela was able to talk to Nanao and help her understand that she’s not alone. Nanao needs her friends’ support right now, and I’m glad that they’re there for her.
• I’m not sure how I feel about Oliver’s actions. I can see where he’s coming from; being upset with Nanao for attempting to kill him is understandable. However, I also feel that he could have handled the situation in a more composed manner.
• I’m also curious about the Spellblade technique that Instructor Garland mentioned. It sounds like a very powerful technique, and I’m wondering what the six known Spellblades are.
• It’s truly commendable how Oliver and his friends managed to rescue Katie from the clutches of Instructor Darius. Additionally, Garland and Vera’s intervention successfully prevented Darius from inflicting harm on her. Darius comes across as an extremely harsh and malevolent individual.
• I’m excited to see how the duel between Oliver, Nanao, and Richard plays out.
• I think the overall tone of the story is dark, but there are also some hopeful moments. In my opinion, the essence of the story lies in discovering one’s path in a world that can be harsh and unforgiving. It’s a journey of finding your rightful place, defining your purpose, and ultimately seeking happiness.
